Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?

Last night, I stayed up to watch some TV and saw the games show ‘Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?’ on CMT (since when did  Country Music Television start showing this show?) and thought I’d test my own super-knowledge (yeah, right) along with the contestants to prove  that – hell, yeah I’m starter than a 5th grader. Turns out – I’M NOT! Holy moly are these questions hard! Obviously though, that’s the whole clever catch of the show – putting educated adults on the spot to answer questions that, yes, 10-year-olds could breeze through. But seriously – the kids that are featured on the show are stinkin’ brainiacs (who happen to be incredibly cute) who lock in their answers in about 30 secs and almost always are right! I’m going to toot my horn just a bit and say that I have plowed through a handful of questions for categories like 2nd grade English and 1st grade music (I know – I’m a regular Einstein). Then there are questions like, “Loam is a type of soil. True or False?” and “Pancho Villa and Eimiliana Zapata were leaders in the revolutionary war of what country?” – what the hell?! I do not remember learning this stuff in the 5th grade! Then again, that was the age that you learned things and forgot them as soon as school was out (I’m still at that age) – so maybe that’s why? Either way…according to the show – I’m definitely not smarter than a 5th grader =(
